Olympic Lifting

Interested in diving further into barbell work? We offer group classes, personal coaching and periodic clinics in Olympic weightlifting. Our love of the sport – and our experience – runs deep.

Regularly Scheduled Weigthlifting Sessions
At Jet City,Olympic lifting is part of our regular curriculum. Olympic weightlifting has an unparalleled capacity to help athletes build full-body strength that translates to any other pursuit. For high school and college students, the Olympic lifts can transform their athletics, building speed, flexibility and power that can’t be developed solely on the field or court. Put simply, barbell work provides a tremendous bang for the buck in general fitness.

Once you’ve learned the basics in regular group classes, join us in one of our regularly scheduled weightlifting classes!

Individual Programming
Interested in more specialized help? I’ve been studying the sport for years.

I fell in love with Olympic weightlifting the first time I saw Mike Burgener’s folks, including Aimee Anaya, practicing lifts. The combination of explosiveness and precision, skill and athleticism, just blew me away.

The more I learned, the more I liked, and the more I saw improvement in my own performance. Over the years, I’ve studied with the best. I’ve learned the value of patience in weightlifting from John Thrush. I’ve learned how to meet the needs of wildly different types of athletes from Greg Everett. I’ve been coached by Mike Burgener. I’ve talked shop with Glen Penndlay. I went on to coach my daughter, Kallista, who became a top-ranked lifter and silver medalist at Junior Nationals.

The Olympic lifts require a high degree of mobility and range-of-motion. If you can’t reach those end ranges, you’re going to limit your ability to do the lift – and those mobility issues are going to hinder you in other sports, as well. So that’s where I start with everyone who walks through the door – range-of-motion. From there, I evaluate each athlete to help them find their strengths, identify their weaknesses, and make gains.
